This was an audition to change our artist because we found that he was unreliable so we have replaced him after we had an audition to see if our new artist would fit the genre better then i previous artist. We found that the new artist represented the generic conventions better then i previous artists.
We also had disputes about the role our previous artist was going to play as he wanted to be the rapper so he was un-cooperative winch could have slowed down are filming process so we changed him before this occurred.

Levi Straus's - Narrative Theory

Levi-Straus's  theory on narrative. He states that narratives depend on having direct opposites that would be seen as having different values, this reveals the meaning of the media text

Strauus' theory will be applied in our video because as well as having various shots of the artist we also are going to have a narrative were theirs are to different young artist trying to make it from two different backgrounds. One is more urban

This video was a practice on making a music video and the way we can amplify and show imagery that matches the lyrics of a song. The song of this video is completely different to the genre of our music video however the both contain lyrics that can be used to create strong imagery.

This video conforms to the generic conventions of rap videos.
(Male Gaze Laura Mulvey 1975)

chip-and-frisco-are-you-video-wretch-cameo

The generic conventions of our music video would be urban culture people wearing track suites, snapbacks, jeans. The video would be shot in an urban place such as a block, street, skate park ect. (Mise-en-scene)
The video would have girls in the video but less as part of the story but more like props this conforms with the idea of male gaze or a video that dosen't have any female characters  will have loads of male characters in the background of the artist wearing clothes that fit the generic convention

Representation of women in music videos (Male Gaze)

Gaze is to do with how an audience views the people that are being presented.

From a feminist perspective:
. How men look at women
. How women look at themselves
. How women look at other women

Gaze and feminist theory

Laura Mulvey coined the term ‘Male Gaze’ in 1975. She believes that film audiences have to ‘view’ characters from the perspective of a heterosexual male.

This links to Andrew Godwins ideas of ‘voyeurism’. He states that music videos contain references to the idea of looking – this could refer to the close up of the intimate shots of your artists (Which are often the perspective of male gaze.

For our music video we want subvert the idea of Male gaze and the generic conventions of rap videos. In other words we want to go against this and have a video that doesn’t have women in it.

This is the music video to the song that we are using y peril p called Get My Paper
Lyrics Get my paper peril p

Chorus:
Just riding in my drop top, cp on the glock
chick with me, rolling up stick.
hey nothing i'm just tryna get my paper, my paper
So fire fire show them got a brother feeling higher higher
Hey nothing i'm just tryna get my paper my paper hey.

 Rap part 1
Another day another dolla, feeling bothered but why i bother.
be stressed i just take a deep breath put my nikeys on and im out to get cheques
No recess we dont play round here no you cant slide with us no playgrounds here
niggas gossip so watch what you say round here by zeene just to make mine clear (yeah)
perp got my mind spinning like a windmill but my future still clearer ten the windshield.
And when you want it you gotta chase homie and i aint got a scale so i cant wait on it.
Every morning every momment now you  moaning like ason on the twenty
Im racking up the money cell phone jumping.
text say what a do i reply nothing new you know im just.
Chorus
Rap part 2
(Hey) And a fool is something i cant fool with, cant walk in my 8 eight and a halfs.
My shoes to big to lit rolling down the street sipping on jin and juice listening to some snoop.
With my mind on my money money on my mind talking about some honeys with a honey on my line.
Horse on my shirt haters on my D***k toilet paper in my pockets i be feeling like the sh**t
Tryna get the green guess thats what makes them sick.
Got these lames looking blue almost thought that they was crips.
(Look) All they wave is white flags tell me i should ease up but im like nahh
All i do is go hard every line got dem tripping about to send them post cards.
Ever since i was small i knew i would do it big made a plan on how to make it rich.
Final Chorus

A British Airways aircraft landing
City Airport
We have choose this location because it holds relevance to the lyrics of the song ("every line got them tripping about to send them postcards") this is not direct imagery it amplifies the lyrics

Thames Barrier
Thames Barrier park
In this park there are many options and places to film so that if one option dosen't work out we can film somewhere else in the park also we are trying to move away from the generic conventions of a rap video and use more attractive locations.

Locations

For our locations we want them to be iconic places that people will be able to recognise easily also, we don't want to steer to much away from the generic conventions so are also, going to look for places where there is graffiti to do a some shots with our artist in front of it. We would also like to get our artist under a spotlight. So for this we would like to use the drama studio in our sixth form this would also, help us decide on what we are going to name our album. The idea now is to call it The spotlight

In order to help us aim are music video at our target audience we need to first discover who are target audience are and to deepen are understanding see the age groups and the range of this group so we can better target are audience. There are many research methods that we could use we have decided on using these methods:

Research methods
Advantages
Disadvantages
Interviews
Interviewee is on their own so we are more likely to get honest answers.
You get to understand the audience as you can ask questions that you may just have thought of.
Interviewer can steer conversation to their advantages.
Time consuming to interview enough people.
May make the interviewee feel uncomfortable
Questionnaire
Can be distributed on a wide scale.
Easy to evaluate and tally data.
Can contain both open and closed questions
Answers can be skipped or not get enough depth.
Discussion groups
Can thoroughly discuss as the questions will get different points of view
Dominant characters can influence discussions.
Not everyone gets an opportunity voice opinion.

                                                                  Ideas for music video

I have the idea of having to stories both with relevance to the song that create a double narrative which gradually becomes a single narrative when the stories become combined and the two half of the stories become one.

For the first half of the video we are gonna have to different  people who both want to get into the music industry but are finding it hard to do so. They will have different reasons for it being difficult.
Shots of artist close ups
shots of artists in different settings
Setting the scene establishing shot at the beginning
shots of imagery for the lyrics of the song for example "I aint got a scale so i cant wait on it"
shots establishing the artist clothes close ups, mid shots and then long shots
Shots of iconic scenery around London to show a journey.

mes en scene

This video displays the type of mes en scene that we want and the costumes we want to use for part of our video but we want to have less people in the video so the focus is more on the artist and replace the people with more of the background (location).

Album cover

This is a first draft of an edited version for my album cover this also shows the mes en scene that i want for the more urban part of the the story for my video. The album cover clearly has the artist as the center of attention and we have the idea of calling the album The Spotlight  and the artist is clearly under a spotlight.

B.o.B - Airplanes ft. Hayley Williams of Paramore [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

This video almost directly displays the amount of amplification and direct visual imagery that we want to use in our music video so we have looked at the ways in which they have interpreted the lyrics for example when it says "airplanes in the night sky" it shows the women singing with her arms out in a warehouse with a night sky projected around the room while she is doing this this shows the amplifies the lyrics without using a direct visual.
